Jargon Buster

If you’ve been on the tour operator websites already then you may have come across these terms and not known what they meant. Below are some explanations to help you along.

Fundraiser

You pay a registration fee and commit to raise an agreed sum – this is usually called sponsorship. It means your commitment is larger but can be raised over time in the run up to your trip.

Self funder

You usually pay the same registration fee but pay the full tour cost and agree to raise as much as you can for charity. Your financial commitment may be smaller however it tends to be payable in a larger 'chunk'.

Open Challenges

Open Challenges are fundraising events which allow you to raise funds for ANY charity giving your greater choice.

Closed events

Closed or bespoke events are are charity-specific, i.e. one charity recruits a group of supporters to take part in the challenge to raise specifically for that charity. If you think you might like to put together a group for a closed event please contact Fundraising for more information.
